Brothers of Blood Anniversary

One year ago today, my first published release came out. My novel Brothers of Blood was at that time a three year labor that completely took over my life. Through ups and downs (wanting to quit writing & moving around so dang much), I finally completed the 4th or so draft – now came the hard part: looking for a publisher. The struggles in learning about the ins and outs of the publishing world have taught me so much about this industry that no matter the few pitfalls, I’ve been given a great honor by Black Rose Writing.

My wife introduced me to the legendary North Texas author, Chad Miller, who through email, introduced me to the ever entertaining Keith E B Chawgo (who gave me my first public appearances on his extraordinary podcast, The Literary License Podcast) along with the irreplaceable Vickie Rae. These two were instrumental in setting me up with BRW.

My novel and the people that it has brought into my life (I’ve met so many authors on this journey!) have changed me in so many ways that I’m still discovering what direction I’m barrelling toward.

Thank you to everyone involved with the publication of my book and thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this ambitious little indie author’s first baby and left a review. You’ve created a monster even if you don’t know it yet. More to come soon!

Now, you saw this coming. Check out Brothers of Blood if you haven’t yet! The horror/thriller novel once called “the Manson Family Murders, but in highschool!”

“This novel reminds me of what Less Than Zero would be like had it been written by Chuck Palahniuk.”

– The Platform author, Alex Bernstein

“Rogers’ talent as a writer becomes bolder and more apparent with every page, as Belle grows older and is left to her own devices. It’s a horrifically realistic picture of a fraction of today’s youth without parental influence.”

– A Taste of Home author, C. Derick Miller

“I was scared, I cried, and I laughed a lot. You wouldn’t know it by the synopsis but it’s pretty dang funny. I hope there’s a sequel!”

– Jesse from Goodreads

Brothers of Blood follows Belle Whynecrow in her final year of highschool. Her best friends Josue, Xavier, and Jesus the hobo welcome the new kid, Chris, with welcome arms. The only catch? To quell their boredom, Belle tells them to create a kill list, marking off the names as they complete their goal before senior year ends. While struggling to pass their classes with flying colors, this band of merry murderers seems to be on a delightfully bloody roll until Belle’s long imprisoned older brother, Beau, arrives at her doorstep. Now a devout man of God, the brotherhood schemes for his return to his original, and highly exaggerated, bloodlust. That is, if Chris’s jealousy doesn’t destroy Belle’s ranking in the gang first. Not everyone will survive, but those who do will certainly have a year to remember because those that kill together live forever in Brothers of Blood by Tristan Drue Rogers.

Tooting the horn of which is mine that was already tooted

I’m not going to go out of my way to post reviews of my work, either positive or negative, on this blog, but it is remarkably distracting and simply neat-o that the first review Brothers of Blood has been given is one that is both favorable and in the freaking dearly departed newspaper.

The Herald Banner.

Personal favorite, “… most of the dialogue in the novel is written in street slang, of which I possess only basic knowledge. (I referenced the urban dictionary on more than one occasion for clarity.) This is not a strike against the book by any means, as language in the best of modern literature evolves over time; if you need reassurance on my opinion about that, just read Herman Melville.

Thanks to C. Derick Miller for being rediculous in kindness and, I hope, honesty as well.

Tunnel Vision

So these Vlogs are meant for the First of the Month, but as you can tell I spent my 1st of July through the weekend in Dallas, TX far far away from Las Vegas, NV with a close friend and someone I deeply love. I annoyed the hell out of everyone by filming when I could, but I was on a mission to switch up this Vlog format. Hopefully I did just that while still crafting a visually pleasing reason to waste 15 minutes of your time.

This is dedicated to my muse, my subject, my Sarah – don't hate me too much for this haha I warned ya!
